Think Twice Before Posting Crime Video to Social Media Police Urge

The RNC is reiterating the importance of informing police first before posting video of alleged crimes to social media.

Constable Karen Didham says she understands that many people post their own videos to social media because they want results, but she says there is a very careful process police must go through before releasing potential evidence publicly.

She says there may be logistical, privacy or even legal issues why a video might not be posted. She says in some cases, it’s hard to know if the video may be altered, and from a legal standpoint, that could harm a case.
